In ancient Jerusalem, it could take weeks, months or years to receive news from Rome, Spain or England. Images on coins were one of the most important forms of mass communication and reflected the times in which they were minted. This presentation will examine five ancient coins to highlight and explain the historic and turbulent times in Israel from the first Chanukah in 164 BCE to the destruction of the Second Temple in 70CE to the end of the Bar Kochba Revolt in 135CE.
